The Âé¶¹´«Ã½ Art Teacher Certification Program (ATCP) prepares the art student to become a certified Art Teacher for grades Preschool through 12 in the State of Âé¶¹´«Ã½. ATCP is pursued concurrent with the NJCU BA in Art or the BFA degree. Students who have already received a Bachelor of Art in Art or a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at an accredited university or college enter in the Certification Only program.  NJCU is a Teacher Education Accreditation Council (TEAC) and National Association of Art and Design (NASAD) accredited institution.

Requirements for admission to this concentration are:

  • A minimum cumulative undergraduate grade point average (CGPA) of 3.0.
  • A minimum of B- or better on all education courses
  • Passing scores on the Praxis CORE, or 560 verbal, 540 Math on the SAT, or 23 or higher on the ACT, or 155 verbal, 156 quantitative on the GRE.
  • No candidate can be admitted to the Art Teacher Certification Program without having met the Praxis CORE requirement.
  • These required courses can be taken before the Praxis CORE: WSGT 110 or MCC 218, ECE 212 , BIOL 224 or BIOL 225
  • No candidate can enroll in any required certification classes without having met the Praxis CORE requirement. The certification classes include: EDU 280, LTED 230, EDU 315, ART 520, ART 530, ART 393, ART 469 and ART 501.
  • All candidates must submit their passing CORE scores as well as the Praxis 10133 Art Content Knowledge by March 15 in the semester prior to taking the fall course ART 393 Clinical Practi
